Soy un Nuevo Méxicano!

Huh. It’s been 44 days since my last update. That actually surprises me, but… not really. It has been a busy month and a half, and there is so much to write about. I’m torn about whether to just write about the whole thing, or to keep it short and attempt to break it down into “short stories”.

I suspect it would be best to do the latter. So. Christmas.

This year, Scott and I decided to spend Christmas with Scott’s family. We began planning for the trip way back in August by getting motel reservations in Dalhart, TX, Las Cruces, NM, and Dodge City, KS.

As is my usual modus operandi, I had the trip planned down to the moment. And, actually, that worked really well for the trip down! Even taking our girls along (Nikki & Ixchel) I was able to keep pretty close to schedule – and the small unplanned detour didn’t even severely impact us. In fact, we arrived in Dalhart an hour and a half earlier than planned (it would have been 2 but for that unplanned detour.) And we got into Las Cruces a full 3 hours early.

No, we didn’t speed (much) we just didn’t need to take as many potty breaks for the girls as I expected.

We had a wonderful time with Scott’s folks! They have a lovely home in a beautiful Senior Living Community. It’s easy access from there to just about anywhere one would want to go. And it’s only about 5 – 10 minute drive from Scott’s Sister-In-Law, Terry. This community is called Trails West, and is mostly, if not totally manufactured homes.

The biggest let-down for Scott and I on the trip was that we were not able to see Scott’s brother Mark & his wife Julie. I think that’ll be remedied soon, however!

But, big news DOES come out of this seemingly brief visit with the In-Laws! Scott and I put in an offer on a house while in Las Cruces, and as we were driving home on 12/31, we received word the offer had been accepted! Scott and I are still almost giddy with happiness… in spite of my having the normal post purchase “Oh, my goodness… what HAVE I done???” feelings!

Sigh, there’s a grey lining to this silver cloud – literally. The house is grey. The hair on the head of all our neighbors is also grey! You see, we’re going to be Mudder & Pops newest neighbors! They’ll be a 3 minute walk from our door, if we stroll, that is.

If anyone is interested, the following link provides pictures of the house we’ve purchased.

I guess it’s official: Soy un Nuevo Méxicano.  Our New House.
