I have fond memories of canoeing as a boy and as a young man. I’ve canoed in lakes and on placid rivers. I’ve even had the opportunity to canoe on a few white-water trips, though nothing really dangerous… mostly gentle rivers with short rapids that boosted my adrenalin flow a bit, but didn’t drive it in to the “terror” category! There’s always a moment on such a river when one can feel the current pick up, the canoe surge ahead as one leaves the slow flow and prepares to dash pell mell down the rapids, no matter how extreme or timid they may be. One can feel this sometimes when wading above a water fall (I’m talking a small one, like ones we used to play in at varying locations.)
This week, I can feel the current of time changing. Well, time is, I suspect, a constant, even if Dr. Who would argue otherwise. And I suppose some quantum physics types might as well. But for us run-of-the-mill humans, time goes at a given pace, no matter our perceptions of it.
Perceptions. That’s really what it’s about… how we perceive time accounts, for the most part, for how we talk of it. For me, today may be so boring that it drags on forEVER! For you, the opposite may be true – it may speed along, ending up before you even feel like it started. It’s the same day, the same 24 hours, and it takes just as long as yesterday or tomorrow. But we perceive it to fly.
If you’re still reading this, I suspect, you’re beginning to perceive this day as interminably long, dragging away into oblivion. “Shoot me. Please.” I hear you thinking. I’ll get to the point.
And the point is this – this week, the current of time is accelerating. The approach of the end of my job at DOTComm is just around the corner, and just beyond that is the move to Las Cruces, the culmination of the past 4 years effort on Scott’s part, and the horizon toward which I have pointed my canoe.
There’s so much to do! So little time! I need a clone of 5 of me and 5 of Scott! I’m feeling like this particular canoe is in imminent danger of capsizing!
