16 Years

Last night, just before heading for bed, I posted the following on Facebook:

On August 9, 1997, I promised Scott that I would laugh with him in joy, grieve with him in sorrow, grow with him in love. And I vowed that I willingly molded my life into his “respecting and guarding all that makes you [Scott] an individual”. It’s been a most wonderful 16 years since then.

They have been years filled with joy, and we have laughed uproariously.

They have had periods of loss and grief, and we have wept buckets.

They have been 16 years of love… and we have grown together.

Beloved, I eagerly await the next 16 years together… and the 16 years after that if God should will it!

I love you.

These have indeed been the best years of my life. And I do look forward to whatever God has in store for us in the coming years. Our life together is just begun.

In other news, somehow I have picked up an inner ear and sinus infection. I’m undergoing a round of antibiotic treatment. The doctor didn’t do a great job of explaining how, but apparently it has to do with moving to a new climate… Council Bluffs, Iowa, is at about 900 feet above sea level, hot in summer, and very humid. Las Cruces, New Mexico, however is 4000 feet above sea level, hot in summer, and for the most part quite dry.

I guess it makes sense that these differences would maybe make me more susceptible to this kind of infection. It sucks, whatever the cause! The inner ear infections has an effect on my balance. My body tries to compensate for this effect, and the result is, I become quite nauseated! I’ve spent most of the past week sitting in the living room. Tuesday was the worst, leading us to visit the local Urgent Care. The antibiotics are helping, though.

Scott has been a little more productive. He’s getting lined up for starting classes in 10 days. He has a line on a part-time job (won’t say where here). And he’s landed a position as a volunteer at a local museum, one of five run by the City of Las Cruces, with ties to the Smithsonian Institute. His responsibilities include research, being a docent, and there is the possibility that he will be able to work on building and curating his own displays. There may be changes ahead to these responsibilities. This position in turn opens the way for Scott to become an intern with the museum. Successful completion of the internship is part of the degree requirements in lieu of a thesis. With this, the degree will include a Certificate in Museum Science.

Today, being our 16th Anniversary, we are going to do something FUN. Just haven’t decided what, yet!
