Happy Birthday

Today is September 1, 2013. Mom would be 88 years old today. Happy Birthday Mom!

My first thought today was of Mom. Well, ALMOST my first thought! My first thought, as I fought tooth and nail against consciousness, was “Shut up, Nikki, I want to sleep.” It was, after all 5:50. Then my second thought was, and I know this is odd, but I distinctly heard Mom telling me “You get up and take her for a walk. She has to go potty!” Weird, huh?

Last Sunday, Scott and I played hooky to join some friends on a hike up in the Organs. On a complexity level, I’d say it was “easy-moderate”. We hiked about 4 miles from the “Dripping Springs Nature Area, we hiked up to La Cueva. This cave overlooks the Mesilla Valley, and has been home to settlements dating back to 5000 years b.c.

From near the opening to La Cueva, this is the view of the Mesilla Valley… and Las Cruces.

And when I post pictures of the Organ Mountains from our neighborhood… this is what they look like up close!

As a brief aside, I need to post a correction to a previous post. Las Cruces is NOT 4500 feet above sea level. It’s more like 3850 or so.

Our hike started at the trailhead at about 5400 feet, and climbed to 5900 feet. For two “Flatlanders” like Scott and I it was a little challenging, but I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t experience too much trouble. We’re definitely going to do more hiking here! There’s so much to see, so much to do. We’re thinking of doing the “Volcanos Hike”. Yes, there are volcanos in this area.

I’m going to add a new feature to my blog posts, starting today. And also, you will (hopefully) be seeing a few more posts from me, as I am going to attempt to post daily. However, many of these daily posts will be short, perhaps just reporting the weather, or a thought… not life updates! And all will include this following section.

Prayer Intention

For September, I will be focusing my prayer life on Direction and this week, especially, I will be praying about Direction in my “Work Life”. I invite you to join me, as I sure could use y’alls prayers!

I personally believe that joining our friends in prayer, for our own intentions, and for their intentions, no matter how specific or how general those might be, is itself a unification with our loving “Papa”, our Father God. And I believe we cang gather in prayer without laying eyes on each other… virtual community!

So, if you’d like to join my little “virtual prayer group”, please just come to my Blog, by clicking on THIS LINK and entering that request in the form you’ll find there. Starting with this post, that form will always be in each blog.

I’ll be watching for you!
