September 17, 2013.
Five years ago today, CPT Bruce Hays was in a convoy in eastern Afghanistan, when the convoy was hit by an IED. I remember seeing a news blurb on the internet that day. No names were mentioned, just that a convoy had hit an IED and there were several casualties. At that time, I had no idea where in Afghanistan Bruce was, only that he had been there exactly 30 days. But when I read the story on the internet, my heart seemed to clamp down and breathing became hard. Somehow, I knew.
When Scott called me, less than an hour later, he confirmed that his brother was one of those casualties.
Today, I look at the beautiful daughters Bruce left behind, and I mourn not only his passing, but that he is not hear to experience them. I mourn for them, as well. I know they miss him terribly, especially today.
Today, we’ve put out our flag, and we are flying it at half-staff. It is just one way we can remember a fallen brother, a fallen friend, a fallen comrade.
To Fallen Comrades!
Prayer Intention
Prayer “is the root, the fountain, the mother of a thousand blessings.” Chrysostom
I really like Chrysostom’s quote… so it’s staying up there for a while.
I continue to pray for Direction, and specifically this week for Direction in my spiritual life.
