Some of you may be aware that back in August, the Clerk of Dona Ana County, Lynn Ellins, began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Within days, numerous counties followed suit, either by their own decision or because courts in their area ordered them to.
Several Republican legislators in New Mexico, having nothing better to do with their time, like work, for instance, have filed a law suite against Dona Ana County and Mr. Ellins. Mr. Ellins made it clear when he began issuing licenses that he did not expect the county to have to pay legal fees, or for the County attorney’s office to get involved. He has determined to take this on himself.
Monday Night, Golden Corral of Las Cruces, set aside 10% of all income between 4 pm and 9 pm to be applied to the legal fund that has been established.
I don’t normally like Golden Corral, but this was too important to pass up. So Scott and I joined several of our friends last night for dinner.
We had a very nice evening, ate a little too much, and returned home. And that was Monday, September 23, 2013!
