New Format here. Each day, I’ll include the previous day’s high and low temps, a count of days in I’ve lived in Las Cruces, and my walking totals. Why? Because I can. It’s my blog! So there!

Yesterday, Scott & I, along with Mudder & Pops, drove down to El Paso, to see the El Paso Museum of History. The second floor of the museum has two free exhibits. The first is a simple timeline exhibit of El Paso’s history, primarily from about 1580 or so, until the early 20th century. Of course, the majority of the exhibits were primarily of the early history. I suppose I should state the obvious, that is, the history of European involvement in the El Paso area.

The second free exhibit was a compilation of oral histories of people from the various older neighborhoods of El Paso. Most of these seem to date back to Depression & World War II eras.

The ground floor of the museum required a ticket. We paid our $5.00 (per person). The exhibit “People of the Sun: Ysleta del Sur Pueblo provided several displays borrowed from the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde (National Museum of Ethnology) in Leiden, Netherlands. These displays comprise objects acquired by an anthropologist in 1882, Herman Frederik Carel Ten Kate.

This display included a really interesting 45 minute video about the history of Tiguas (that’s pronounced Tee Wass) pueblo at Ysleta, beginning with a description of their efforts to be recognized as a legitimate Native American Tribe by the US Government, and their initial rejection by various Pueblo Indians of New Mexico because of their support of the Spaniards during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680.

Later, we drove around El Paso, down near the border. I think Scott and I will have to go back, to wander through the various mercados down there. We followed up with lunch at Fuddrucker’s.
