Well, before we get going too far with this new format, I need to do a bit of a reset. The information on the “Days in Las Cruces” and step/mileage counts is incorrect.
I’m now writing my blogs one day in advance. This blog, for instance, will publish Monday, October 7. But as I type this sentence it is afternoon on Sunday, October 6. I just put in the day and mileage stuff for YESTERDAY, Saturday, October 5. This just will not do!
So, I’ve corrected the data. That why if you are paying attention you’ll see we jumped immediately from day 103 to day 105! Now, I just have to remember to come back before bed tonight and update the mileage!
And, while I’m writing about trivia, you’ll see there is another section added to my blog below. “Daily Gratitude” is the result of the sermon Sunday. Our church’s worship theme for October is “Fruits of the Spirit”, and specifically the topic Sunday was “Joy”. Rev. Linda Mervine, Pastor at First Christian Church of Las Cruces, citing research that “the more gratitude we feel, the more appreciative we are, the more joy we feel” has challenged us for the next 2 months to journal daily something we are grateful for, and to add something new every day. To facilitate this, she gave a journal to everyone in the congregation that wanted one.
I would have taken one, but we sold dozens of journals and notebooks at our yard sale before moving here. Scott threatened me with dire consequences should I take a new one from church. So, I decided to comply with Rev. Mervine’s challenge via my blog.
After church, Scott and I stayed behind to join with our congregation in the “First Sunday Potluck”.
Then, to round out our Sunday, Scott and I attended the Trails West Karaoke at 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Now, for those who know us from Omaha, this will be the FIRST Karaoke we’ve ever attended!
Daily Gratitude
Well, when it comes to living up to this challenge, I guess I can start with the “low hanging fruit”. In other words, when I look at my life, I see so much to be grateful for. It doesn’t take much thinking though, on this first day of the challenge to answer the question. “What one thing are you most grateful for today?”
I am most grateful for my husband, Scott Hays-Strom. I am grateful for him because he has walked unquestioningly by my side through all the journeys of the past 18 years. During the dark years following my coming out to my parents, Scott was there beside me, providing the love I thought I’d lost. Scott supported me and lent me strength for the years during which I provided care to my parents during their struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. When I was unemployed after the lay off from TD Ameritrade, Scott supported me.
Scott puts up with my moods, both the cheerful ones and the shitty ones when I seem to be mad just for the sake of being pissy. Scott has indeed, successfully managed to navigate all the minefields I have wittingly and unwittingly set in front of him. By any definition (save one) Scott has lived up to the very definition of “husband”. And for that, but especially for his apparently undying love for me, I will be eternally grateful for him.
Prayer Intention
“If the only prayer you say in your life is “thank you,” that would suffice.”
–Meister Eckhart
And since this is a new week (yes, I’m 1 day late – sorry about that! – I just went in to my bowl of Milestone Blessing clays to draw a new prayer intention topic for this week.
Hmmm. I do this by locating the bowl, turning sideways to it and looking away, then reaching in and drawing a clay without looking. In other words, I don’t CHOOSE a clay. I let pure chance select the clay… and today’s clay, the clay representing what my prayer intentions for this coming week is…
Remember, this is, for the most part, pure chance…
