Sunday, we were off to church at First Christian Church. After a very nice service, Scott and I set out for some breakfast, and then grocery shopping.
There’s a nice little pancake place not far from here, called Pancake Alley. Since for once we were on our own, we decided to head over there. But, driving down Alameda, we saw a sign out in front of “A Bite of Belgium” indicating they were now open on Sundays. So we stopped in there.
Wonderful, friendly staff greeted us and just about fell over themselves waiting on us! I really enjoyed breakfast there, the eggs were perfect, but the bacon was out of this world! Hard to describe, really! And of course, I couldn’t help getting the frosted cinnamon roll drizzled in chocolate and powdered sugar.
Thank goodness I have to walk the girls frequently, it helped to burn off those calories… though, I think it’s going to take extra walking all week to break even.
Then, last night was the Community Potluck. I volunteered to assist with setup and coffee making (my specialty!) We had a fantastic turn out, nearly 48 folks, and lots of really scrumptious food. It should not surprise anyone who knows us to know that Scott’s casserole was highly regarded.
Now, a bit of adminitrivia for all y’all! Over the past 2 months, I have frequently referred to the place I live as “the park”. Yesterday, I was assertively told, we do NOT live in a PARK. This is a “Community”!
The difference is this: One lives in trailers in parks. In a Community, one lives in Manufactured, or mobile, homes! Since there are NO trailers in Trails West, only Manufactured Homes, this is a Community. And one way to know this is that the name of our… community… is Trails West Senior Living Community. Follow the logic on THAT one!
I’m not sure what the difference is, to be honest, but I assure you, I shall not make that mistake again!
Daily Gratitude
Yesterday, after writing about MCC Omaha for my Gratitude segment, Scott and I set off for church.
And I realized sitting in the congregation at First Christian Church in Las Cruces, how grateful I am that God has led us to a friendly little congregation here in our new home! The pace of life and worship at FCC reflects this new chapter of our lives. MCC Omaha is a vibrant and young community and its pace reflects that.
FCC, on the other hand, is smaller, and peaceful. I do miss MCC O, but I really am quite enjoying this new community.
Prayer Intention
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” — Psalm 8:1
This week’s prayer intention, once again drawn from my tiles, is “Mountain Highs”. Hmmm.
A couple weeks back, my intention was Mountain LOWS… those times in our lives when things seem dreariest. Often I turn to God when things look bleak. How often do I turn to God, when things are looking up?
And the truth is, even today, with no job, and no prospect for one (haven’t seen todays want-ads, though) it is still easy to think of “Mountain Highs”. All I have to do is look at the glory of God’s Creation about me, look at the beautiful man sitting next me, and at the calming, precious little fur-lives curled between us to know God’s glory!
I love looking at the stars at night; last night’s nearly full moon; the spill of the Milky Way arching its way overhead, and how can one not tune into God’s Glory. These sights, as well as those in the previous paragraph, never cease to swell my heart to near breaking.
I cry at the drop of a hat, it seems, and so often it isn’t the sad that induces tears, but instead the direct experience of the love of God!
Mountain Highs indeed!
