Don’t Cry For Me

Last Wednesday, I reported that Scott and I had joined a hike along the La Llorna Trail, a distance of about 7 miles. Apparently, I had the name wrong.

Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful woman, named Maria, who fell in love with a very handsome man, and tricked him into marrying her. Maria and the man lived happily for a time, and had two children. But the man had married beneath his station, and began to ignore the beautiful Maria. But he loved his children.

One evening, angered by his attention to the children, and his ignoring her, she flew into a rage, grabbed her children and threw them into the fast flowing river!

When she realized what she had done, she flung herself into the river to attempt to rescue them, and drowned. The next day, her body was found washed up on shore, and the towns-people buried her there, dressed in a traditional white burial gown.

Now, villagers report that at night, a woman, dressed in white, wanders the banks of the river, weeping and crying out “WHERE are my children?”

They know she is Maria, but they do not call her by her name any longer. Instead, they call her La Llorona… the Weeping Woman.

And it is along this river bank that we walked Tuesday night. And I thought that sound was Coyotes!

DAILY GRATITUDE

I am grateful today that Hawaii is now the 16th state to permit people who love each other to marry.

How appropriate! This past week, the Strom Family marked a new Beginning! So, this coming week, I will be praying for this new beginning in our family, and invite all to join me in praying for Matthew Strom, my nephew Brad’s fourth child, born November 5th.
