Last night was the third La Llorona Trail Stroll with friends I met over on http://www.meetup.com.

It was a fun walk. Due to some miscommunication, not everyone went to the correct trail-head. Five of us met at the “Picacho Avenue” Trail-head, and two went to the “Calle del Norte” Trail-head. The latter trail-head is under maintenance and the parking is messed up. You actually have to park in a construction area. That’s why we switched to the Picacho Ave trail-head.

So, anyhow, the group organizer held us back for 30 minutes while we waited the other two to make the 10 minute drive. Finally we realized there had been another miscommunication, and they were actually going to walk without us.

So, we set off. We met them more than half way to their side of the trail, and they turned around and walked with us to the Calle del Norte trail. At this juncture the group decided they didn’t want to spend all night walking the trail, and would rather go up to a local brewery. Scott was fine with this plan. They would drop us off at our car, then they would go on to the Brewery, and we’d go home.

Except I am on these walks for the mileage. I want those steps! I gotta walk!

Scott, being the wonderful guy he is chose to walk with me, since that is what I wanted, and our two groups each went our separate way.

This marks the second time that the group decided they didn’t want to do the whole walk. It seems to me we’re all up there for different, and sometimes exclusive reasons. That’s fine. It’s their group, after all! These others are in fantastic shape, and think nothing of setting off on hikes that neither Scott nor I are prepared to manage at this time. So I get it that the La Llorona is not challenging to them!

I think, starting next week, that Scott and I may very well do the hike by ourselves, earlier in the day, when one can see the trail, and the scenery… and it’s warmer!

And maybe if we keep this up, Scott and I will eventually be able to join the others for one of their “Real Hikes” up Cooke’s Peak, for instance, or any of several other hikes over very rough terrain, and climbs of up to 3500 feet (the La Llorona by contrast is simply 6.2 miles of flat, along the edge of the river.)

Anyone in Las Cruces interested in a 6 mile hike?

DAILY GRATITUDE

I’m grateful today, for living in Las Cruces, here in the sun! Yes!

PRAYER INTENTIONS

“God seeks shalom at every level of life, from cells to community and nations. Our unique calling is to bring God’s shalom to our relationships and the world.” — Bruce G. Epperly

This week’s theme, drawn from the tiles, is “Care.”

Fortunately, the description for “Care” fits in with my primary prayer request this week. My middle brother is still in need of prayer, as he recovers from heart surgery. Thank you!
