I had not realized to how much I had settled down into our new life here in Las Cruces. As I looked for work, never the less I had my days and my weekends free. I could, as the inclination moved me, go for walks and hikes.
I could leisurely work my way through each day, doing all our daily chores a little at a time. And, I could write. I could work on my novel, and each day I could put together a post for this blog, sometimes short and other times, more involved.
Well, things do change with the onset of a new job. Let me get you all caught up on the past week.
Wednesday of last week was my first day at my new job. I worked with the owner of the store, trying to absorb as much as I could about what I need to know. Thursday was more of the same. The company is trying to get me as close to 40 hours a week as we can get.
But, I had to have Friday through Sunday off, as we had prior commitments to attend our nieces’ performances in “The Nutcracker” in Hobbs. Hobbs is 275 miles away, on the eastern edge of the state. You can smell Texas from there! (Joke! What one actually smells is dead dinosaur… aka oil) Friday, Mudder & Pops & Scott and I drove over after Scott got out of his class, arriving at about 5:30 pm. The production began at 7 pm.
The older niece, C, played the Snow Princess, and the younger one, B, was a Sugar Plum. Both were beautiful! If all goes well, after C graduates High School in May, she’ll be attending NMSU on a dance scholarship!
Saturday, we spent at Scott’s brother’s home, then Sunday we drove home, getting back here about 4 pm or so.
And Monday found me back at work. Last night, our Pastor and several ladies from church came to the house and with Scott and I , worked on a Christmas Play. We have one week to find the cast, and rehearse! Yeesh!
Here’s an aside for you all. As my regular readers are aware, by and large I try NOT to use people’s full name unless I have the time to ask them in advance. I rarely do. The same is going to be the rule for my place of work. I will not use the name of the store, nor will I discuss much of what we do there. I just don’t think it’s wise!
Today, Scott and I ran errands, and I have spent the day doing laundry.
So, what subtle changes are in the air for me as a result of this new job? I’m not sure if there are subtle ones! And if there are, I may not recognize all of them. But here are the obvious ones:
- The girls don’t get to go for potty breaks as often! That’s not good.
- We haven’t been able to go on a “long walk” at all since last Wednesday. Though our nephew, A, took them for a great long walk on Sunday.
- I now have to do all laundry on Tuesday or Thursday (don’t feel like it/forget about it on the evenings.)
- Scott will probably have to take over cleaning the kitchen, at least until classes restart in January.
- I probably won’t be able to write a daily blog… look for them on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- When, oh WHEN, will I be able to write more on my novel!?!?!
- Going to have to dash after church services on Sunday, to get something to eat, then get to work.
And who knows how many more things will change???
