We’re two thirds of the way through October, and my training is progressing relatively well. The weekend after my last post, I did two back to back walks. On Friday that week I walked 6.5 miles around the old Mesilla township, dodging morning traffic (not much but enough to need to dodge them!) The next morning, Scott and I and our friend Paul, drove up to Baylor Canyon, and hiked 7.4 miles (round trip) up to Baylor Pass, an elevation gain of 1500 feet in addition to the mileage. The pass is at 6310 feet.
But the push was a little too much, and so I ended up taking it easy… TOO easy… last week. Then Friday, Scott and I flew back to Omaha for the weekend for some family business. My niece, Linsey, got married in one of the nicest ceremonies I’ve attending in some time!
While in Omaha, I thought of a dozen things to write about in this blog. As of today, can’t remember a single one! I really need to start carrying a pen and pad of paper again.
One thing from the weekend, I realized there’s nothing like visiting someplace one has recently lived to cement the conviction that where one is now is home! I found myself, before the trip, saying things like “We’re going home for the weekend.” But arriving in Omaha, and making a quick round of the places that used to be significant in some way or another helped me to realize that Omaha is no longer home, though it is certainly a place we want to visit again and again. It is after all, home to a great number of our friends! But this place. Here in Las Cruces, this is home. And going back to that place that used to be home, has helped me know that.
We had such a nice time with so many people there, visiting Strom Family, and church friends… all of whom we really enjoyed getting caught up with, even a little.
And this trip reminded me I have some pretty good family!
It was amazing the folks who commented about following my blog. Really?!?!?! I honestly wasn’t sure anyone read it anymore! Well, except for my brother, and my Houston friend, Jerry. And Tony, of course! But so few comment on it. Oh, and as I’m listing folks, I keep thinking of more, so okay, I know a bunch of you read it! But, I really want to do an experiment. So I hope everyone who read the first sentence is still reading. Here’s what I want you to do. Virtually all of you read this, either in email format or in Facebook. I want you to go to this link: http://scottneric.com/ontheroad/2014/10/fishing/ and I want you to comment. I would like specifically to know if you would still read my blog if you had to navigate to the blog. So do this. Please. PLEASE! Go to my blog at http://scottneric.com/ontheroad/2014/10/fishing/ and comment by saying:
“Eric, it’s _________. If you stop posting via email, I’ll never read you again!”
OR
“Eric, it’s _________. Of course I’ll continue reading your if you stop posting by email, as long as you send me a link! After all, you’re the world’s most interesting blogger! I hang on every word!” (Or something similar.)
OR EVEN
“Eric, it’s _________. This is a really stupid idea!”
The idea is POST a COMMENT! I want to know how many people actually do read me.
Got it? GOOD!
Well, what’re you waiting for? POST!
i like the email version Eric but as long as I have a link I’m OK.
LOVE YOU
Jerry

Personally, I like the email. I recently learned that every time someone has to click, it’s a 50% drop off rate. But I’ll read it however you want to send it.

Well, I’m a day late and a dollar short. I do read your links but it is easier for me if I can read them by email link. Been having some technical difficulties where I can’t access Hotmail or facebook on my desktop, so now learning to do most of my cyber work on the laptop.
