Recovered

So, it’s now been over a month since the Bataan. I’m finally all recovered. The blisters have receded and are most now just dead skin that is slowly sloughing off. And I’m ready, and rarin’ to get back on the trails.

‘Ceptin’ the rattlesnakes are out, now, and apparently there are more this year. Oh well, we’ll deal with that when we have to!

I’ve started working out at the gym again, and I’ve discovered that my trainer is trying to kill me. But that’s good, because I need some good killin! And by that I mean, he’s helping me focus on stamina and weight loss. I’m now going up to NASA’s gym four times a week, Monday I do 35 minutes on the treadmill, trying to get at least a LITTLE bit of running in. Tuesday and Thursday are weight training days with my trainer, and Friday is treadmill again. I still need Wednesdays to recover. And starting next Saturday, I’ll be hitting the trails again.

Did you know there are Marathon Series? There’s a group called “Mainly Marathons” that put on marathon series around the country. There looks to be series in many regions of the USA except the Northwest or the Southeast or the West.

A series is a set of back to back marathons in a given area. So, for instance there is an Annual Dust Bowl Series. Over five days, there is a marathon in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado & New Mexico. Or, there’s the New Mexico State Parks. This is a series of FOUR marathons in Colorado and New Mexico. This series is a little different in that it’s split up into 2 days in February and another 2 in July. There’s a Day of the Dead Marathon series here in Las Cruces… Five marathons, back to back over the course of five days.

These are interesting to me. The question of course is, can I avoid blisters, or better, prepare my feet better, so as to not have to worry about them. I’m seriously considering doing the State Parks one next year, as well as the Bataan.

What do you think? Want to join me for one of these five marathons (NOT asking you to do the whole series, since I’m not even sure I can do that!)
